Announcing the 2020 MIDWIVES PRACTICE ACT!   With growing national recognition of the need to integrate midwives to improve outcomes for mothers and babies, and a national agreement on the part of 7 major midwifery organizations, collectively known as
US MERA (US Midwifery Education, Regulation & Association), we are taking a new approach to CPM licensure.

US MERA provides language that states may use to bring midwifery licensure standards up to the level of those set by the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM).   The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG)
endorses the ICM standards as a basis for licensure of all US Midwives.

Our new House Bill 5629 and Senate Bill 3851 use the US MERA language to set educational requirements for existing and future Illinois Certified Professional Midwives.
